Welcome to the first New York Yankees Interactive Yearbook This interactive CD-ROM is a state-of-the-art product and one of the most technically advanced and exciting products ever available to Yankee Fans. It requires certain minimum standards from your computer in order to function well. (Please refer to the TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS section below for precise details). If you encounter any problems running the CD be sure to check the KNOWN ISSUES section also located below. So that ALL users are able to view the content of this CD we have included the neccessary software, specifically Quicktime 3.0. To run the CD, your PC or Mac should have at least 16 megabytes of RAM, support thousands of colors, and have a 4x or faster CD-ROM. A 2x (double-speed) CD-ROM will work, but (naturally) more slowly. PC users must be using Windows 95(tm), and Mac users should be running System 7.5.1 or better. GETTING STARTED (Windows¨95) These instructions assume a basic familiarity with Windows interface conventions. If you're just getting started with your computer and find the operations described below confusing, please refer to the documentation that came with your computer. 1. Quit all applications running inside of Windows. 2. If you do not have Quicktime 3.0 installed on your machine, locate the directory (folder) named "QTpc" and follow the "readme" instructions. On Windows, QuickTime 3 is a major rewrite and NO applications that supported the previous versions will run under version 3. Let's say this again. None of today's Windows apps which use the current version of QuickTime for Windows will work with QuickTime 3. This includes MoviePlayer 2.1.2. Hence QuickTime 3 on Windows is not backwards compatible. Apple's solution is to install 2.1.2 on Windows until your applications are rewritten to support QT3. ** DO NOT REMOVE QUICKTIME VERSION 2.1.2 from your system, it is also required when running this program. 3. Set the color-depth of your monitor to 16-bit. 4. If you have a internet provider and wish to update the information contained on this disk you must initiate a connection(note: under most circumstances the program will locate and initiate a connection, but to prevent any complications you should initiate a connection prior to starting the program). 5. Make sure the Yankee CD is in your CD-ROM drive. 6. The program should run automatically when the CD is inserted into the CD-ROM Drive. If it doesn't, select RUN from the START menu and type d:\start95 and hit enter (where d: is the letter of your CD-ROM drive). GETTING STARTED (Macintosh) 1. Quit all applications running under Finder. 2. If you do not have Quicktime 3.0 installed on your machine, locate the folder named "QTmac" and follow the "QuickTimeª READ ME" instructions. 3. Set the color-depth of your monitor to 16-bit. 4. If you have a internet provider and wish to update the information contained on this disk you must initiate a connection (note: under most circumstances the program will locate and initiate a connection, but to prevent any complications you should initiate a connection prior to starting the program). 5. Make sure the Yankee CD is in your CD-ROM drive. 6. If you own a Powermac users should run START-PPC from the cd. If you own a 68040 Macintosh users should run START-PPC from the cd. HELP From all sections of the CD-ROM, you can click and hold the "Help" button and a screen will appear which explains how to use the various screen elements. To quit the program choose "Exit" from the menu. KNOWN ISSUES MACINTOSH: Users should make sure that virtual memory which is located within your control panels is turned off. PC: On some systems, you may encounter problems loading quicktime 3.0 on you machine if you feel that this is the case check out http://www.apple.com/quicktime/ for more information. General A. The Yankee Interactive Yearbook was created using Macromedia Director(tm), and the program will take from 10 to 50 seconds to load (more or less, depending on your system's processor speed). You won't see any changes onscreen during loading, but as long as your CD-ROM's drive light indicates activity, that means the program is loading normally. B. On most systems, you can optimize video performance by setting your screen resolution to 640x480. This will also fill the screen with the Yearbook image, for a more immersive effect. C. If you want to by-pass the opening of the program (introductory movie), click once anywhere on the screen and the program will take you to the main menu interface. Our feelings will be hurt, of course, but we'll try to take it in stride. D. On some systems, you may experience inconsistent color displays the first time you run the program. We suggest that you exit the program and try running it again. The ESC key will quit the program, or you can use any of the usual Windows or Mac methods of quitting active programs. E. Speaking of which: the fact that the escape key will quit the program is a built-in function of our programming tools. We apologize to all you gamers who intuitively use the Escape key to by-pass animations in order to speed up gameplay. 3. WEB LINK A. You'll find, after a little exploration, that The Yankee Interactive Yearbook contains a Web link feature. This feature is designed to work with Netscape and Microsoft(tm)'s Internet Explorer, which you'll need to have open and actively connected to the Web. You may also use America Online's web browser, but only if you're using the newest AOL 3.0 32-bit version.
